At the end of 2016, Franny Ritchie participated in a photo shoot for #thisgirlcan, an initiative by SportEngland to encourage more women and girls to participate in physical fitness and incorporate physical activity into their everyday life. Franny answered a casting call for a ‘visibly pregnant cyclist’ with no modelling or acting experience, and was chosen to participate in a half-day photo shoot to accompany the phrase ‘I don’t let the bump slow me down.’
The photos were all taken under the Elizabeth Way bridge, next to the River Cam. The underpass was chosen because of its anonymity and ‘authenticity’ –despite being right next to some of the most beautiful scenery in Cambridge.
Franny is extremely grateful to Granta Architects for allowing her the time off to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. If Sport England decide to use the photos, you can see her in posters around the UK in February 2017, as well as on social media.
