Granta Architects carried out this scheme, which was in the setting of a listed barn and required special attention to the materials and detailing. Initially consent was obtained for the conversion for an old shed and stables but the condition of the existing building resulted in a complete new build.
The scheme was for a 3-bedroom residence with an open-plan kitchen/dining/living room, a study and music room. The project involved re-using all the existing structure, underfloor heating and a bio-mass boiler.
As a result of the re-use of material with low-carbon technology and passive design, Katie Thornburrow was granted an award for Environmentally Sustainable Development Sympathetic to Historic Environment by South Cambridgeshire District Council in 2007-2008.
